I went into labor (finally!) at 41 weeks 5 days. At midnight I woke my husband because the contractions were starting to be more intense. After a few hours, Emilie came over and was able to reassure my mother and husband and give them some guidance about when to head to the hospital. My mom felt much better to not have to make that call by herself, since we wanted to stay home as long as possible, yet not have a baby in the car! When we got to the hospital, I was only 3 centimeters. This was discouraging since labor was pretty intense at this point. I was glad Emilie was there to do hip squeezes since my husband couldn’t get the touch quite right! At this point my labor was very difficult; I was fighting each contraction by tensing up at the pain but didn’t realize that’s what I was doing. Emilie kept encouraging me to breathe through the contractions and immediately once I started doing this the labor was less painful, and the contractions were shorter. Emilie suggested the peanut ball and that probably helped me to become fully dilated! (The midwife on duty had only checked on me once so far!) When the midwife finally came back, I was 9 centimeters and we were able to get into the birth tub! I pushed for 45 minutes and out came our baby girl! My husband was very nervous about the birth as he is the first male in his extended family to attend a birth! Having Emilie as our doula meant there was so much less pressure on him. He could relax and rely on her to encourage him in how to help me. Emilie served in whatever way we needed. We are so thankful she was a part of our birth story!

Emilie is the absolute best! From the start of my pregnancy to the trenches of postpartum — she was there. She was always available with helpful information and physical and emotional support. When labor came on quickly, she rushed to my side. When things stalled out for a bit, she supported me and offered multiple solutions that helped us keep things moving and progressing. This birth was a wild ride — literally! From my water breaking as we sped down the interstate, to pushing while we made our way inside the birth center — Emilie took it all in stride. I am forever grateful for her help & companionship! Can’t wait for the next baby so we can do it again!

So thankful for Emilie and the way that she loved and led our little family through the birth of our second child. She knew just what to do at every moment. Her presence was calming. She gave me insight as to ways to best help my wife prior to labor, she helped with exercises and positions to help progress labor, and she rejoiced with us when our little guy finally arrived. We wouldn’t have wanted anyone else by our side through this birthing experience!

Emilie was such an amazing support during my pregnancy and especially during labor. She helped me and my husband to think through the birth experience and the choices we could make. She walked us through what “normal” births are usually like, and made sure to answer any of our questions. One of the main reasons my husband and I are so glad we hired Emilie is that she helped my husband in knowing how to best help me. She educated him, encouraged him, and supported him just as much as she did me! When I went into labor, it started intensely from the first moment. I definitely had a quick labor and never really had time to build up concentration during contractions. But, because of all the support my husband had, he was prepared to help me from the first moment. Emilie did more of the behind the scenes support while my husband really worked with me through my labor. But at one point she made sure to give my husband a couple minutes for a quick shower, knowing that was something he would really appreciate once we got to the hospital.
Because of Emilie, my husband and I can look back on having our sweet son knowing that we worked together every step of the way. I’m so thankful to know that Emilie helped us to have the birth we prayed for and she wasn’t afraid to step back and help from the sidelines when that was most appropriate, yet she was completely prepared to step in for my husband any moment it was needed. She was a voice of reason, and a calming presence for us both. We can’t imagine having had our son so smoothly (and yet so quickly!) without Emilie. She was truly a blessing for us!

Any time I get the chance to talk to a new mama about the importance of a birth plan, I take it. I am a mama of two; my handsome, smart, and kind son and my beautiful, outgoing, music loving daughter. Much like each of my kids, both of their births were very different. I was young when I had my son, Izaiah; I thought I was educated, but I wasn’t. I went to a regular OB and went through the motions. When I went into labor at 36 weeks, they immediately gave me an epidural and told me exactly what to do and when to do it. No one asked me what I wanted or if I was comfortable with it. I felt rushed — not cared for or heard. My son was born hypoxic because the nurses didn’t believe me when I told them I felt like it was time to push. I didn’t get the sweet moment when your precious baby is laid on your chest after you work so hard to bring them into this world. Izaiah was whisked away to be hooked up to wires and IV’s… As you can imagine, after that experience the thought of having another baby was absolutely terrifying. So, I armed myself this time. I armed myself with someone who was educated, who would care for my every need, who made sure my birth plan was followed but also supported every decision I made throughout the process. Emilie was there from start to finish. She encouraged me, pampered me, prayed with me; she made sure my birth experience was the one I wanted and desired so deeply. The birth of my daughter, Bell, ended with her being laid on my chest as Emilie stood smiling while giving my husband and me time to soak in this moment with our new baby girl. If it’s your first time having a baby and you want someone who will stand by your side or it’s your 3rd and last time, I suggest Emilie. She is kind, loving, and will make you feel like the strongest mama out there. Let Emilie help make your birth experience a special one.
